Lion has today announced that Boag’s brewery tours will continue to operate from the historic Boag’s Visitor Centre, after receiving in-principle support for a $1 million financial support package from the Tasmanian Government to increase tours and enhance the visitor experience.
Nathan Calman, Boag’s Brewery Director said:
“This outcome is a win-win for the Launceston community, and for Boag’s.
“The proposal to close the visitor centre and tours was not put forward lightly, but as a response to the significant cost pressures we are facing across our business.
“The response – an outpouring of immense passion for the continuation of our brewery tours and visitor centre experience, reminded us of just how integral Boag’s is to Launceston.
“We had no expectation that the Tasmanian Government would provide support to keep the tours operating. However, when they approached us, we were pleased to engage positively with them and are delighted the State Government has been able to find a way to support us through a funding package of $1 million.
“This package will help us continue to provide a great tour experience at the Boag’s Visitor Centre, while we work with the Government and other stakeholders to address some of the long-term cost pressures our manufacturing business continues to face.
“We will now work with our Boag’s Visitor Centre team, who will all retain their roles, to consider how we can use this funding to enhance the Boag’s brewery tour experience and promote tourism to Launceston for the benefit of the region.
“As a thank you to every proud Tasmanian, we will be offering anyone with a current Tasmanian Driver’s License free brewery tours for the next 12 months. We hope this provides a great incentive to bring friends and family to visit Launceston, to understand what we do and enjoy all that our region has to offer.
“We look forward to warmly welcoming visitors to Launceston and to Boag’s.”
