Beer drinkers across the country are in for a thirst-quenching surprise this summer, with the latest release from Steinlager setting a new precedent for the Zero alcohol category.
Steinlager has launched New Zealand’s first double zero beer – Steinlager Zero 0.0%*– meaning Kiwis can now enjoy a great tasting Steinlager and not worry about the alcohol content or carbon footprint.
Set to be a serious challenger in the rapidly-growing low and zero alcohol space, Steinlager Zero has launched off the back of the long-standing successes of the wider Steinlager brand.
With increasing numbers of New Zealanders seeking out low or zero alcohol drink options, Steinlager Zero has joined the line-up at the perfect moment – debuting now in local bars and restaurants and hitting liquor store shelves across the country.
“Steinlager Zero is New Zealand’s first double zero beer, which is a huge win for consumers,” says Lauren Dyke, Steinlager Brand Manager.
“Whether you’re an existing Steinlager drinker or new to the brand, Kiwis can enjoy the diversity of choice that Steinlager Zero affords – allowing them to flex between traditional or zero alcohol options depending on the day, occasion, or how they’re feeling, without judgement.
“We’re extremely excited for Kiwis to try Steinlager Zero, and think they’ll love the great tasting 0.0%* beer from Steinlager.”
The iconic and much-loved Steinlager, owned by Lion, became the country’s first large scale beer brand to be Toitū carbonzero certified in November 2020.
As the first zero alcohol beer under the Steinlager brand, Steinlager Zero holds claim to the lofty title of New Zealand’s first double zero beer.
Toitū carbonzero certification has seen every step in the Steinlager product’s life cycle have its emissions reduced or offset – from growing the hops and barley, making the beer at the brewery, to bottles, caps, packaging and transport – even right down to the length of time the beer will spend in the consumer’s fridge.
Steinlager Zero delivers a full flavour that is perfectly balanced with a dry, tangy finish and the crisp, clean bitterness that Steinlager drinkers know and love.
Consumers’ relationship with alcohol is changing, with health and wellness trends now having strong influence over purchasing habits. There has been a 1116% increase in the volume of low alcohol content beer since 2016. This is being driven by an increase in the number of zero alcohol beers available, and consumer demand for these options – like the 28% increase in zero alcohol beer volume sales for the year to October 2021 alone.
Dyke says that for Kiwis choosing to drink Steinlager Zero, the addition of it being carbon zero contributes to the increased choice offered to consumers. “Being able to enjoy an icy cold Steinlager Zero in the knowledge that it’s been created with care for the future in mind – that’s pretty good,” she says.
Make the most of your tomorrows with Steinlager Zero 0.0%* beer – now available for purchase at supermarkets and liquor stores in a 12-pack format and in on-premise venues across the country.
