Little Creatures is turning 21 this November and it only feels like yesterday their first beer ‘Live’ (later to become the Pale Ale) landed in the hands of the Fremantle locals. Like the Live Bottle Conditioning of the Pale Ale, Little Creatures have always done things a little differently.
To mark the milestone, the team have been reflecting on the wonderful moments over the last 21 years, and all of the incredibly talented, fun and individual characters that have made their mark on the Little Creatures breweries… not to mention the amazing things they have gone on to accomplish.
“We have seen some of our Creatures go on to be part of other great breweries and produce some of Australia’s most unique and flavourful beers. We have also seen some of the artistic Creatures go on to further their creative careers taking that charismatic colour beyond the world of Little Creatures,” said Russ Gosling, Head Brewer at Little Creatures Fremantle.
Since the year 2000, the team have seen the Fremantle and Geelong breweries grow and flourish as the heart of these communities, really priding themselves on supporting local artists and musicians.
And of course, after 21 years at 40 Mews Road in Fremantle, a $30 million redevelopment of the brewery’s spiritual home in Fremantle will commence in the new year next door at 42 Mews Road.
To mark this momentous occasion, Little Creatures have created the Freo Vice, the latest instalment from their Single Batch range.
Inspired by the colourful personalities and sunsets of Fremantle, this refreshing vibrant fruity sour ale has a berry aroma with balanced fizz sourness and a short fruity tang.
Freo Vice will be poured exclusively at both Fremantle and Geelong’s 1980s Miami Vice Themed Birthday parties alongside the new Pacific Ale, Hazy IPA and others from their core range.
NOW FOR THE PARTY/(S)…
Taking inspiration from the Freo Vice, the birthday parties are following a 1980s Miami Vice theme featuring local artists, dress up competitions and a themed menu.
Here’s a summary of what our breweries have in store for our hop loving community.
FREMANTLE
27 November – 28 November: The Brewhouse, Fremantle
Both days from 12 midday we will have Live Mural Paintings from Bertie Louise, a local Perth artist creating her own take on the Freo Vice artwork and from 2pm Kids Face painting.
Things then kick into overdrive from 5pm when the event officially starts. Expect a warm welcome from the Little Creatures team, themed food pairings and awards for best dressed following the 1980s Miami Vice theme.
After, local music legends Simone Monoco (Saxophone) and DJ Josh Grainger will bring the beats with a cracking 1980s set. Watch out for Simone as he walks the floor with his Saxophone really bringing the big New Wave 1980s energy.
GEELONG
27 November – 28 November: Little Creatures Geelong
We will have Live Mural Paintings from Glen Downey aka @worldincrisis. This local Geelong artist will create his take on the Freo Vice artwork but that’s not all that will be painted! Free face painting for the kids will also be on offer from 12pm over the weekend!
6:30pm is the official kick off time for the Freo Vice party. Expect a warm welcome from the Little Creatures team, themed food pairings, roller skating performers and awards for best dressed following the 1980s Miami Vice theme.
The guitars will be tuned and amps warmed up for the opening rock out set of local Geelong band The Grimwoods who will bring the tunes from 6:45pm. The Grimwoods have a strong local following so expect the crowd to really get around it.
After a short break the main act Creature Fear then take centre stage rocking out with a compelling mix of 60s garage rock and modern atmospherics rolled into a full-bore, shoes-off sound that can still whisper sweet nothings in your ear.
