National Foods welcomes views expressed in the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association’s statement today relating to National Foods and dairy farmers in Tasmania.
Group Executive Corporate Services and Logistics, Conor O’Malley, said National Foods echoes the TFGA’s sentiments.
“Like the TFGA, National Foods wants to pay farmers in Tasmania a fair and just price. We support the principle of a collective bargaining approach, which works well for National Foods and farmers in other states. We also want the call for product boycotts retracted, for the sake of all parties,” Mr O’Malley said.
“We are offering a price that is very fair and significantly ahead of the market. To go further would put us at a considerable commercial disadvantage and we owe it to our 500 workers in the state, our farmers, and others to maintain a sustainable business into the future.”
National Foods will respond to any correspondence from the TFGA.
In the meantime, the deadline by which National Foods suppliers had exclusive access to the milk price offer has expired. National Foods is taking increased volume commitments from current suppliers and making its offer available to other farmers in Tasmania.
