Lion Dairy & Drinks announces new Landcare grant
Lion Dairy & Drinks (Lion) has announced that its 2018 Lion Dairy Pride Landcare grant applications are now open.
“For the first time, we’ll also be inviting our orange growers to participate through the inaugural Lion Orchard Pride Landcare Grants program,” said Lion Dairy & Drinks’ Managing Director Kathy Karabatsas.
Ms Karabatsas said Lion Dairy & Drinks first partnered with Landcare Australia in 2014 to launch the Landcare Grants program for its dairy farmer partners and this had seen fantastic results year on year.
“The Lion Landcare grants programs are designed to help our dairy farmers and orange growers develop more sustainable practices on their farms, increase business efficiencies, lower their operating costs and secure the long-term sustainability for their business,” Ms Karabatsas said.
“Results to date have been fantastic. Last year alone saw an average of 8% energy savings since project implementation, the installation of 544 energy-efficient devices and 500 plants planted - these results are a testament to both our dairy farmers, and our partnership with Landcare Australia.”
Each year since launch, Ms Karabatsas says, Lion Dairy & Drinks has committed to providing 10 dairy farmers who supply it with a grant, and this year it has extended the opportunity to its orange grower partners with eight grants now available for Lion Dairy & Drinks dairy farmers and two for its orange growers.
“The program is one of many initiatives Lion has put in place to create a more sustainable business across our agricultural supply chains,” Ms Karabatsas said.
